It's getting closer!!!!!

It's nearly here!! Only 6 days to go! Crazy!! And it doesn't matter how hard I try, I still have more shopping to do, more things to make, more decorations to go up...... Oh and cards to make and send out!!! Can I just have an extra week???

I'm actually super excited for Christmas this year, not only is it my bubba girls first Christmas but the new year is holding some huge changes and exciting things for our family (more to come on that later....)

December market day!

So I realise I've been a bit quiet on here recently! Well this has been the reason why - I've been preparing for the December Christmas Market!
So much to do!!!
In the last month I think I have made at least 100 owls!!

It has definitely been crazy round here and my owls have kind of taken over the house!! But it's certainly been worth it, I LOVE doing markets The atmosphere is always fantastic.

And this month was even more of a family affair as my sister joined us with her own stall selling Doggie Treats- a HUGE success, selling out an hour before finishing time!
So overall it's been a crazy month!
Now for Christmas!! Let the preparations begin!!!!!

Fab Fabric Hangers!

So my latest project is these super cute fabric hangers.

I must admit, not completely my idea, as I've seen similar on etsy. But I thought it is a great way to do something with the fabric that I absolutly love and don't want to use! - which by the way, I have a huge stack that I don't touch for that very reason!

So these fab fabric hangers will be added to my next market stall - as I have enough to keep some for me, and some to share!! ( or available online at www.facebook.com/houseofnicnax )

Potatoes!!!

I have potato plants!!!

And I am very excited that I have these growing! WHY? Because I love (and I mean LOVE!!!) potatoes! Potato salad, potato bake, mashed, stuffed, roasted.... I love them all. In fact when we go to Sizzler for "all you can eat". I fill my plate with all the potato dishes! I did that last time without even realising that is what I've done!
So the fact that I will soon have my very own home-grown potatoes excites me more than you can imagine!!

Market day!

Well I had an absolutely awesome day at the Wellard Village Market yesterday!
I love the market atmosphere. Music playing, the creative things for sale, the smell of food, the buzz of people chatting away! And all the wonderful things people had to say about what I made!
And it really was a bit of a family event for me, with both mum and dad adding to the stall with their creations! Mum made a batch of button bracelets and hair clips, and dad made some bird feeders!
It was such a great day! Can't wait for next month now, so we can do it all again!!!

"I'm hungry...."

Soooo sick of hearing 'muuuum.... I'm hungry...' Yes I understand its nearing the end of the the food shopping week, but I'm sure we can scrounge up something good to eat! .... Well maybe not....
So out with the old trustworthy 'scone like dough' recipe for a family favourite...cheesy vegemite rolls!!! Here's the recipe

3 cups self raising flour
Pinch of salt
50 grams butter
375ml milk

Kneed all together to form a dough. Then roll out flat. Spread a layer of vegemite and then cheese.
Roll up dough to make a log. Cut into pieces and top with cheese.
Bake for 10 mins.
The softer the better!!! Yum!!

I also made another batch and used it as mini pizza bases!

No more hungry bellies!!!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!!

Well tonight I decided that I will take the kids out for a 'mini' trick or treating. Normally we don't celebrate Halloween - as it really isn't an Australian celebration. Don't get me wrong , I have nothing against people that do, and I usually stock up with a few treats (secretly I hope nobody visits, then I get to eat them!).
But this year the kids have come home from school asking to go, and daycare had a dress up day, so I thought I better not ruin the fun, and we might just go for a walk, visit the neighbours we know, and see if anyone has decorated their house.
Oh I almost forgot.... Our seasonal table we have in the dining room has been transformed into a Halloween table. That was the kids handiwork! Might move it to the front door with some lollies!!

On my dining table today......

Well I've run out of room on my sewing table, so I've spread my projects (some would call mess) to the dining table.
Yes there are scissors, material, ribbon, and triangle shapes every where.
I think I'm getting a bit carried away.... Today I am working on more bunting, but this time Christmas Bunting.
I know it's only October, but Christmas will be here before we know it!!
So back to it I go! Sew, sew, sew!!

Bibs and Bits

Good evening!!! How has your weekend been?
Mine has been a bit crafty. I've been working on a little project for my soon to be born nephew. He's actually arriving tomorrow, so I'm very excited!!
As they live in the country I've sort of themed his little gifts.
Some 'farm yard' bibs, and Froggy bibs and a Froggy Taggy Blanky.
I hopefully can get some more made tomorrow for him.
Can't wait to meet the new little family member!!

I love buttons!!

So I while ago my crafty Mumma made me a button bracelet. I love it! And because I have millions (not exaggerating) of buttons I decided to make one myself!!
It was so easy and I received some great feedback, so there will definitely be more on the way.....

Dinosaurs!!!

Well this post is actually about something I've done for work. See I usually try to keep my work off my blog, but this time, things kinda overlap, so here it goes....

As I work in a three year old kindy, and as kindy kids LOVE dinosaurs, I've created a dinosaur fossil tray for them to discover some dinosaur bones!

I must admit, my own kids are loving it! As you can see, my 5yr old couldnt keep his hands away for long enough for me to take a photo!

I actually havent finished it yet. The idea is that I will place some sand on top and give the kids some paint brushes. As they move the sand they will discover the hidden fossils underneath.

I had a little dilema before making it....actually I had a couple....I wasnt sure what I could make it in that would keep the sand contained. It needed to be big enough that it wont be easily broken, but not too heavey for me to move.

As I was driving yesterday, pondering my thoughts, my problem was sovled as I drove down a street with a verge collection. Someone had put out some cupboard draws. So, I stopped my car on a main road, and collected a couple of draws. Dont get me wrong, Im all for recycling, but Im not usually the type to collect off the verge.

My other problem was the dinosaur bones...... I didnt have any. And every shop I looked in didnt have any either!
In the end the trusty $2 shop had some, and she even threw in a bonus one because it was broken.

So now my discovery tray is finished (minus the sand). So I guess I'll have to wait until next week when school goes back to see how popular it will be!

Gnomesville!

Its been a year since we've had a holiday, and boy did I feel like we needed some time away from home!!
All the constant fighting from the boys, the messy house, the 'Im hungry!' 'Im bored!' Grrrrr I need a get away!!! But ......I suppose the family can come too!! So off we went for a little family trip down south!
So as we had travelled 3hrs from home, I REALLY wanted us to visit Gnomesville!
Gnomesville is located in the Ferguson Valley just out of a town called Dardanup. We got lost :(
Well not really lost, but we kinda didn't really know where we were going!
But once we finally got there, it was well worth it!!
Over 8000 gnomes have made their way there from all over the world!
Gnomes were everywhere you look- up and on trees, along and in the river, along the pathways, on logs, EVERYWHERE!!!!!
Absolutely awesome!!!!
It was worth the detour- and next time we visit, we will add one more to the collection, from our family!

Bunting

So for ages now I've been wanting to make a bunting. I just haven't got around to it!!
Well today was the day!! I was able to sit down for about an hour whilst bubba slept and the boys played happily.
I'm quite pleased with the result!!

Busy weekends!!!

Wow! It's been a while since I've posted! Oops!!
Well it's not cause I'm lazy! I've just been busy!!! ( well that's my excuse!! Haha!!)
There's been HEAPS going on around here recently.
The biggest event of the week had been my younger sisters wedding!! With both myself and hubby and the kids in the bridal party, we've been extra busy preparing!
The wedding was absolutely beautiful, so a huge congrats to my little sis and her new husband!!

Spring!!!!

Yay! What a lovely spring day!
I spent quite a bit of time outside today, pity it was hanging washing! But I must admit it probably took me twice as long as I kept wandering off to look at the garden!
The flowers are out in full bloom, and although it's all a bit overgrown, it's looking nice and green and colorful!

Monday 3 September 2012

Popcorn- the old fashion way....

I just fancied some popcorn! But I don't own a popcorn maker- so the old fashion way it had to be!!
You know, the old sauce pan on the cook top way!
The boys thought it was great, getting excited at every pop!
Once we had a big bowl full we decided on making different flavors. One lot plain- with just a touch of butter, one lot icing sugar - just like I used to have as a kid, and one lot caramel.
That was the one I was most excited about. I've actually never made caramel before! So I just mixed sugar, honey and butter together, I don't think that's quite right, but it worked, and it tasted delicious!
Now I kinda feel sick from eating too much!

More owls!

Good Morning!
So I've been working on a few more owls this morning! These two are mini owls. Both made from recycled materials!
Still a few more just waiting to be stuffed!

Owl-ing!

Meet some of my new owls!

These little cuties have been made from tea towels and recycled fabrics and buttons.
